I have been working as a journalist, copywriter and editor for over fifteen years, and a selection of my more recent output can be found here on the Stuff By Me blog.

BUSINESS JOURNALISM
As Business Editor of the CMU Daily I write about the music business on a daily basis, and also regularly cover key stories in the wider entertainment, media and copyright industries. You can read my weekly summary of the biggest stories in the music sector here on the blog. As Associate Editor of esPResso I also regularly write about developments and trends in the PR and marketing industries.

ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALISM
While my focus at CMU is on the business side of things, I do also regularly cover other big music stories, particularly those involving legalities and litigation. I have also been writing music-based columns for the Play For Life website this year, which you can read here. And I am charge of all the news content on www.ThreeWeeks.co.uk, so in the summer months report on Edinburgh’s August festivals.

COPYWRITING
I also regularly turn my hand to writing marketing copy, either for UnLimited Media and its publications, or for promotional material created by the UnLimited Creative agency. Sometimes these assignments need punchy sales speak, sometimes engaging but informative prose, other times concise instructions for complex processes. I also produce support materials for all of the UnLimited Insights training courses, and occasionally plan, write and/or edit business reports for UnLimited Consulting clients.

SUB-EDITING
I am also an experienced sub-editor, reworking, fact-checking and grammar-fixing all kinds of articles, usually according to a publication’s pre-determined style guide, but sometimes just to make a piece more engaging. I do some sub-editing for UnLimited’s own publications and creative clients, and also occasionally for other media on a freelance basis, most recently the Brunswick Review.
