Obama plans his own version of SXSW, White House style
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 5 September 2016
American President Barack Obama – on the home straight of being President now, so basically he can do whatever the fuck he likes – is planning a mini-festival in the grounds of the White House to celebrate the worlds of music, film and tech.
And if that sounds a little bit familiar, what with Obama speaking at South By Southwest back in March, well, to be fair, the Prez is acknowledging the inspiration behind his event and calling it South By South Lawn. The 3 Oct bash will bring together “creators and thinkers”, no less, for a night of music, film and tech innovation.
According to Billboard, the White House’s Chief Digital Officer Jason Goldman describes the event as a “call to arms for every American to roll up their sleeves and make a positive mark on our country – and a celebration of the great work so many of us have already accomplished”.
UK PM Theresa May may, or may not, be likewise planning her own version of the UK’s leading showcase festival The Great Escape. You know, for when all this Brexit bollocks goes horribly horribly wrong and we all have to leave the country pronto.
