BBC leads at all-new radio industry awards
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 21 October 2016
The Radio Academy launched its revamped awards event earlier this week, what is basically a successor for the old Sony Awards, though the UK radio industry organisation banged the word ‘audio’ in the title as well as ‘radio’, so that it can celebrate whatever new fangled radio-style services pop up on the internet in the coming years without ever overreaching its remit.
It does mean that – as the Audio And Radio Industry Awards – the new back-slapping bash shares its name with the Australian record industry’s big awards event the ARIAs. Though maybe the Aussie radio industry could now launch the Broadcast Radio And Internet Transmission Awards, and then we’ll be even.
